Held every August, the Fowey Royal Regatta is an attraction which draws visitors for its maritime as well as its land based events. One of the premier sailing events in Britain, the Fowey Royal Regatta has previously drawn eminent guests such as Queen Victoria, Prince Albert and Queen Elizabeth II. A yearly event in the 2nd and 3rd weeks of May, the Daphne du Maurier Festival is set in the lovely Fowey Port. Always proud of its literary hero, Fowey celebrates its Daphne du Maurier connection with a range of festivities from drama, music and art to guided walks, lectures and concerts. The du Maurier family home still lies on Ferryside but it was Menabilly (which she once rented), a ghostly mansion that found its way into Rebecca with the opening line, "Last night i dreamt i went to Manderley" . If you miss the festival but would like to find out more about her relationship with Fowey, you can take a Daphne du Maurier Guided Walk conducted by the Blue Badge Guides or take a tour on the Daphne du Maurier open top bus service. Find out more about these tours at the Fowey Tourist Information Centre
Held in the last week of June, the Mevagissey Festival Week celebrates the Feast of St. Peter in a tradition that dates back to 1754. Every year, Mevagissey accommodation is packed out as this fishing village comes to life with events such as the Flora Dance, the Teddy Bears Picnic, gastronomical delights, live music and a fireworks display.
Held on the second Sunday of each month, the Lostwithiel Antiques Fair is one of the most successful events of its kind in the area. Browse through antiques and collectibles ranging from Victoriana, china and glass to postcards, prints and small pieces of furniture.
