High Cross House

High Cross House

Designed by William Lescaze, a Swiss-American architect, High Cross House was specially designed as a home for the headmaster of Dartington Hall. The work is a typical example of Lescaze's work in form as well as in its attention to details such as colour and woodwork. High Cross House is now home to the Dartington Hall Trust Collection and Archive. Furnished with period pieces by designers such as Alvar Aalto and Gerald Summers, the whole effect is an international celebration of Modernism. On your visit, you'll also be able to see Dartington's collection of ceramics which includes Chinese, Korean and Studio ceramics. Some artists whose works you'll find here include Bernard and David Leach, Shoji Hamada, Elizabeth and Cecil Collins, Mark Tobey, Ben Nicholson and Christopher Wood.
